Originally founded in 1944 as a Danish glassware importer, Bodum began its transformation into a coffeemaker company in 1958 with the launch of its first designed product--a vacuum-method coffeemaker called the Santos. In the 1970’s and '80s, Bodum developed a broad range of kitchenware, coffeemakers and teapots. In 1974 Jørgen Bodum and Carsten Jørgensen created the Bistro, the first-ever French-press coffeemaker with a plastic frame. This completely new fabrication quickly became the top-selling Bodum product.
Bodum strengthened its product range by acquiring the French company Melior in 1986, which allowed it to continue producing the future-award-winning Chambord French press with the same attention to quality and detail as when it was originally designed.
Today Bodum is recognized as a premier gourmet coffee and tea product supplier. The company continues to expand its product assortment with the goal of bringing Scandinavian simplicity into the kitchen and gourmet design to the table. Bodum products include a diverse mix of designs, ranging from the award-winning original Chambord French press to other coffee and tea press designs, as well as tabletop and storage products, cookware, gadgets, kitchen tools and small electrics.
